ACTIVITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

The Laboratory of Structural Analysis and Antiseismic Research is the oldest laboratory of the Department of Structural Engineering, School of Civil Engineering NTUA. It was founded in 1930. Its primary aim is to provide services in the context of analysis and design of structures, the development and certification of software and the experimental simulation of whole structures (or parts of them) such as seismic insulators, dampers and base isolators used in buildings and bridges. The scientific team of the laboratory includes six professors and about thirty-six postgraduate and PhD candidates.

The facilities of Laboratory of Structural Analysis and Antiseismic Research include computational units equipped with both commercial and in-house software for computational simulation of structures, in terms of their static and dynamic response, as well as their optimization. The laboratory infrastructure also contains a single DOF seismic table according to the international standards (dimensions 1.60×2.60 m2). The shake table is operated through a 10-ton hydraulic cylinder, controlled by a servo-valve. A complete data acquisition system is also installed to monitor – in real time – and collect the displacement, velocity and acceleration data of the seismic table, as well as strain values on various members of the structure – specimen.
