ACTIVITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

The Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures is responsible for academic activities as well as Research & Development activities related to the topics of analysis and synthesis of dynamic systems and structures and specifically to advanced methods of dynamic analysis and synthesis, machine operation diagnostics, smart materials and industrial control. The Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures has previously participated in multiple European (BRITE FP6, SPRINT, Marie-Curie, etc.) and international Scientific projects related to the aforementioned scientific fields. The Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures currently employs three Professors, two post-doc associates, over five PhD students and multiple postgraduate students.

The Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures is equipped with various fault simulators, data acquisition systems, sensors (accelerometers, strain gages, load sensors etc.) for the accurate measurements of vibrations and dynamic response of mechanical systems, lasers, high speed camera, PLCs, thermal camera, mode stimulator, telemetry torque recorder, 3-axis Cartesian robot arm etc. Some of the equipment to be used in the project include:

  • Two National Instruments NI SCXI-1000, real time data acquisition and editing systems, including the corresponding I/O data acquisition cards.
  • Complete microphone set (Larson- Davis 2541, B&K 4189, etc.) including the required pre amping and power supply units.
  • Vibration measurement Laser Doppler VibroMet 500V (MetroLaser Inc.)
  • Software: Ansys, Solidworks, COMSOL, ModeFrontier, Matlab, Labview. Fortran 77 και MATLAB codes, developed in the Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures, for 3D acoustic analysis. Optimization algorithms also developed in the Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures (genetic search, Sequential Quadratic Programming), as well as optimization unit MATLAB Global Optimization Toolbox.
